12:00 pm
here moscow time more than one hundred palestinians killed as a result of israel's weeklong shelling fighter jets dropped leaflets warning gazans to evacuate in the face of an imminent invasion broadcast one of them to stay indoors or risk being hit by a strikes. that in sharp contrast to hamas claiming that a cease fire agreement has almost been breached and will be announced and implemented within the next few hours we've got the latest for you also the u.k. recognizes the new syrian rebel bloc as the voice of the people pledging support for the coalition despite a dangerous division in its ranks. and france again loses its cherished aaa credit score his ratings agency sound an alarm over
12:01 pm
a red bear eurozone recovery. very good evening for me kevin owen here r.t. tonight and a busy news night it is israel has reportedly warned all garza residents to stay inside tonight or risk becoming a target the death toll from israel's bombardment of the region's already exceeded one hundred around a quarter of them children journalist terry fears in gaza with the latest must warn you may find some images coming up in this report upsetting. israel's assault has continued it's now day seven of operation pillar of cloud israel has over these last few days used naval and land attacks on the gaza strip so far today those attacks have been through and and means only least four palestinians have been
12:02 pm
killed today including one a fifteen year old boy his name is in the north of the strip israel continue to target almost every population center in the gaza strip from rafa in the south which has been heavily pounds over the last couple of days particularly the beit lahia area in the north of the gaza strip as well as gaza city and khan yunis the middle area of the strip in the beginning of the morning israel said that no one should leave their homes and if they leave their homes they will become a military target of the state of israel so as you can imagine by statements being issued like that by israel and over the last few days we've seen israel leafleting northern areas of the gaza strip saying we're going to start a ground invasion soon that's happened three times now about lifting exercise that this is the civilian population here is totally terrorized and they are unable to continue their normal life the tools the same time obviously there's been stockpiling of food and fuel and bread and things like this as a result of that there's now a real on the supply of basic things that people are relying on for their normal
12:03 pm
lives business is a totally shut down educational establishments are totally shut down and the humanitarian situation in terms of health is getting greater and greater and greater. israel's attack on gaza in response to what it says is ongoing hostile action loosing dozens of aid groups war now of an impending humanitarian crisis british human rights. in gaza says the situation there is desperate. everyone is a target now we've had. over thirty children have been killed now and frankly just days like. this really feels like we're in no man's land it just feels like. there's not many homes being targeted now so many civilians have been killed and now we call and even go in the streets and the n.g.o.s are being told to stay in as well it just feels like we're sitting ducks every explosion options it's like a countdown you don't know exactly where it's going to land we've just been given a warning actually that israel is going to accelerate its assault on gaza and this
12:04 pm
is this is obviously you know hugely catastrophic for so many of the people here this is what happened in the gaza attacks last time people were going for days without without without serious professional food and and of course this is this is a potential disaster the collective punishment of the siege we're hearing the certainly the biggest humanitarian crisis is in the hospitals whereby they're short of so many things like that used in one week the amount of funding g.'s and searches and and some basic medical supplies in three months obviously they're really strapped the ambulance she's in the medical agencies because so many cases are coming in that we had yesterday the biggest the largest definitely more than day which was our best thirty people killed. there in gaza for us and a few minutes we had on the cease fire that hamas says has been agreed to and the contradictory actions taken by both the mouse and israel in the lead up to that
12:05 pm
announcement. the u.k. has become the latest e.u. nation to recognize the recently formed coalition of syrian opposition forces as the sole legitimate representative of the people it follows official recognition by france and italy and a joint statement of support by a foreign ministers or a smith for artie's in london with the details. they've called the formation of the coalition a major breakthrough that's what william hague said in his statement earlier and he's now recognizing the coalition as the sole legitimate representative of the syrian people now that alone brings with it major political clout that along with it he's also introduced what he calls a significant increase in practical support they're going to invite a political representative to come to the u.k.
12:06 pm
so that's assessed essentially establishing a diplomatic front inviting an ambassador from the this coalition to come to london but also and this is a thing that's going to give people most pause for thought he's going to commit another one million pounds in what he calls communications support he mentioned a couple of things internet hubs satellite phones to enable the opposition to communicate where and when they're in the field but of course when we say the field what we really mean is the battlefield so people are will be worried about what those communications equipment to going to be used for and basically they'll be saying that the how you use communications in the field is essentially to more effectively target bombs and other ammunition the problem with the syrian opposition for western countries has always been a lack of unity western countries have always said you know get yourselves together and then we'll talk about supporting you more closely and it's true that this coalition does represent a coming together of those various factions and forces that has been very old with
12:07 pm
each other in the past and they've pledged also to let more factions joy if they so choose but importantly there are fourteen all is the most groups in the city of aleppo where there's been a loss of fighting who rejects the coalition wholeheartedly they say that it's a conspiratorial project and their reaction to it seems to be that they thought their desire to set up and is live this state in syria so that will worry western countries should give them pause for thought because of course it will increase fears that any arms that are eventually possibly sent to aid the opposition could end up in the wrong hands so one can only hope that that will give western countries just a little bit of pause for thought. alemao made from the syria tribune says european supporters of the rebel coalition don't know who they're dealing with we don't normally this pollution and they don't control anything on the ground and you know the west wanted to be the sort of prison for us which did not make sense right
12:08 pm
after our friends after the permission as leader of the sort of the syrian people the final groups and the readers the released this video will see that this provision but nothing because now you know that they are they were fighting the. syrian so i don't think they will they will be able to cross over. or we can watch it on the one black. one it will come in for you later on this hour on this story now afghanistan's president karzai has ordered his top security officials to take full control of the prison about graham air base is still run by the u.s. despite an agreement to transfer power to afghan authorities signed back in march or to lucy catherine off is in kabul. this is really an issue of sovereignty for the government of afghanistan we have to keep in mind that the prison is an enormous very controversial detention center here in afghanistan it has more than
12:09 pm
three thousand afghan prisoners who have been held there without any sort of trial or due process with the courts fifty seven of them were actually found to be innocent under afghan law by afghan authorities and what we've heard from karzai spokesman on monday is that actually as many as one hundred new prisoners are being put into that detention facility by the americans mainly through special forces night raids. month one hundred new people are month and so you have this issue where afghan nationals on afghan soil are being held for an essentially occupying force and this is really prompting a lot of disconcerted by the government here within afghanistan we heard from one actually human rights expert is that the afghans simply want the present and the ability to determine what to do with the fate of the prisoners and this is why karzai issued a statement saying. his officials take urgent measures to ensure a full afghanization of the prison and a complete transfer of authority although it is unclear that there's going to be
12:10 pm
any immediate changes it looks like this process will still take a bit of time to pull through the americans are saying this is a matter of security they say that they have found that the karzai government has released a number of prisoners who had ended up going back to the taliban or carrying attacks against coalition forces or u.s. troops and they also say that they have the rights under rules of war to detain so-called belligerence although of course when there is no due process no court system is sort of ensuring this it's hard to tell who is a belligerent and who is just a local afghan who's been swept up by this massive prison and we have to keep in mind that this comes just days after a very critical tense talks between the u.s. and afghanistan over the future of american forces presence in afghanistan after twenty one thousand where the issue of sovereignty again. and came up. strongly a porous opposes immunity for american troops who kill afghans on afghan soil she wants them to be tried by afghan law here in this country whereas u.s.
12:11 pm
military officials staunchly are against that and they want their military officials essentially to be brought back to the u.s. to stand trial there and this is of course become much more controversial after the recent high profile trial of the massacre of sixteen afghan civilians by an american soldier who is now being persecuted in washington state in the united states so what this really boils down to is a lack of trust by both countries which is quite disturbing if you look at the way forward here. but as promised by the top top stories get some comment on the hamas chief spokesman is claiming that israel and gaza militants have agreed to a cease fire that cease fire they say to be announced shortly within the next few hours so far the televisa neither confirming nor denying the claim it's a confusing picture let's try and unravel it for the latest developments go to our correspondent paula slee she's in these really capital good evening paula there's a lot of information maybe misinformation going around certainly conflicting information how close we know to a truce as your gauging it from where you are tonight. well it certainly seems as
12:12 pm
if we're close to a truce although as you say a lot of misinformation and conflicting information that is doing the rounds on the one hand we are hearing from a key spokesperson who says that the two sides have agreed to a ceasefire he says they're both amassed and israel agreed to the ceasefire that was mediated by cairo he says it will be announced at nineteen g.m.t. and then it will go into effect two hours later effectively twenty one g.m.t. this evening but we're not hearing the same from the israeli side in fact they deny this they say that no cease fire has been agreed to they say that the ball is still in play but details are still being hammered out and in fact we're even hearing from some israeli officials who have said that they first want to see a period of twenty four hours of calm before they can give the nod to any kind of truce agreement and if this is not confusing enough we are also hearing from
12:13 pm
a senior hamas official who in fact is denying that any kind of cease fire has been agreed to he says that the agreement however is close but certainly not finalized it is in the atmosphere of conflicting reports particularly for the people of gaza that the situation remains so intelligible so not clear in terms of what they should be doing throughout the day israeli warplanes have been distributing pamphlets these pamphlets are encouraging and warning people to leave their homes in light of israeli airstrikes in fact the templates go as far as to say if you follow our orders you will be ok so gazans being encouraged to evacuate their homes and go to the same terms of the various cities in which they live but at the same time people are receiving text messages and their messages also on the radio saying that they should stay at home because of israeli airstrikes already be ordinary person in gaza is at a loss in terms of what to do and it is in this atmosphere of conflicting reports and confusion that we now see almost a week off fighting between israel and gaza there was also conflict. conflicting
12:14 pm
reports on the whip here we're hearing from the united nations relief and works agency that says that israel has lied on its twitter page and we have seen from the israeli government on its twitter page is that the u n one is allowing harassed and other militants to fire rockets from school yards these are effectively our schools that the u.n. monitors where the u.n. flatly denies this and says that this is simply not true so again just a lot of conflicting reports here paula we also got a large enough with reuters news agency saying egyptian officials are saying the gaza truce talks are continuing as you've been listening to they say they're still hopeful for a deal on choosing neither the latest in from reuters i guess this this information conflict something to be expected briefly year. it certainly has to be expected i mean the situation here is so fluid almost by the minute it changes you have the same problem in terms of when we hear about israeli airstrikes or rockets landing
12:15 pm
into southern israel it's so hard to verify that information and within minutes of it supposedly happening you already see all this kind of information being distributed both online and in the mainstream media so we'll just have to wait and see what the coming hours bring but certainly the mood is that something is on the go and i think perhaps it's just a question of whether the truce is announced now or later but i would imagine that right now the situation is far from any kind of israeli ground offensive so he decided to be heading for a cease fire or i paula thanks very much we know you are on call there all my monitoring developments for us with actually bit later the. middle east correspondent well with the truth i'm still uncertain as paul is talking about let's get more perspective on the crisis in the confusion with a professor of politics at new york university for tricia de janeiro she was we know on the line live mr jaro hi there thanks for being with us make of the time i'm sure you heard the correspondent there and according to egypt and we've been on the brink of a cease fire for two days now why is it dragging on do you think the so long. well
12:16 pm
it's dragging on for obvious reasons that israel is not honoring a cease fire either and they want to day have two different ideas of what they want discussed or decided upon in order to put a ceasefire in place so that israelis lot of hamas to start firing rockets at hamas alliance you know is around a star can open the embargo and i think it would with israel no for twenty four zero zero calm before a cease fire you can have the come before the cease fire it's a chicken and egg thing isn't it it is absolutely and i mean i think they have to have their drawn stand down you can still hear them buzzing above much of the city and so i you know they're the stronger power they need to stand down first i understand that you know there is always this kind of idea that the stronger power asked to show you know show that it is it is a stronger power and they can't be deterred by these kinds of offensive the but you know israel does have the upper hand here so i think it needs to stand out for you
12:17 pm
know just look just what are the claw back a bit as these negotiations have gone on israel seemed to be didn't run pick up the operations more and more he wanted gazans today to start evacuating it was not just a negotiation tactic what do you think israel is really trying to achieve in terms of a cease fire right now but what i mean at the beginning i thought they were just practicing you know what it with their iron dome system in syria whether or not it works and you know if we do back up who broke the cease fire here it was the israelis who assassinated a hamas official in fact it's equivalent to our departed our secretary of defense basically so you know you were going to have retaliation here and you know so israel continues bombing they they send a bunch of leaflets what's they're known to do in the past they tell people to get out of the way but quite frankly i think you know i just don't understand where it's people are going to there's an embargo they can't leave because they can't go to different homes or families houses because i mean it's just they're under attack
12:18 pm
as well and how does israel. but if it's from a broken gaza just looking at the infrastructure regardless of the terms of the cease fire it's going to take goes a very long time to rebuild how does israel stand to benefit from. you know i don't see how they stand to benefit from that at all it seems to me that they have made a strategic miscalculation on this and fact considering the situation that's going on in the middle east you know they have uprisings all around that and and fact although they're against you know the current leadership and the surrounding countries that doesn't that doesn't help their situation within the context of the middle of this i think they would be trying to you know have more concessions for the palestinians show that they're part of this democratic movement and part of the structure for the middle east and become you know a more democratic place and look towards the future and go forward what about a must. declared its uniting with it over this crisis one of them or of states have also given their support to hamas to what do you think this conflict is going to
12:19 pm
mean for hamas is reputation as are going to come out of it all hamas to seeing is know especially in the middle east i mean i think if you work from a middle east as opposed to a western perspective they're actually going to have you know a kind of a better reputation now they you know the arabs think like the middle eastern states they can think like we do they have just as much right to defend themselves as as a western state israel does and in this case it's really nice to see them finally stepping up and going over there to give some of their support to stop this war and destruction you know these people they've had enough they've been under them barbara for such a long time and twice a war without anybody saying anything and trying to cease the fire thanks of the lines pre-show appreciated you know the professor of politics at new york university. thank you for being with us to news continues just a couple of minutes from now.
12:20 pm
texas wants to pull away from the usa in fact at least twenty states have started petitions for independence after obama won the election with well just a few voting irregularities but guess what suspicion will never happen it is a very easy thing to do to sign a petition and it is another thing entirely to leave the usa that little civil war thing that happened back then does anyone the usa honestly think that they are gov has the bow determination of the actual rebel i don't think there is a single george washington type among them well maybe just see fit tour a kind of but he's out of office how do it makes it seem like revolution or succession is this fun cool easy thing to do with cool slogans and texan flags flying but the reality looks a lot more like the arab spring before you put your name on the dotted line is a seed you should really understand what that means and what you're in for the
12:21 pm
founding fathers sure did but that's just my opinion. you know sometimes you see a story. you think you understand it and then. you hear. and realize everything is. the big.

hello again in another day for the year with stripped of its treasured aaa credit rating for second time this year this time the downgrade came from moody's which condemned the block second biggest economy is stagnant in exposed crisis strategist moggridge bogan raef says the time is running out for your giants to act. the european union economically as it stands is an unsustainable organization is an unsustainable financial and economic model so what this downgrade actually i think
12:23 pm
is pushing france and germany and some of the bigger countries to do is recreate the european union i mean stats according to some of the other economies such as greece cortical spain italy and you know kind of regroup and recreate near kenya in order for the european union generally and france this typically to reset itself the economy and the people are going to suffer or there will be significant shocks to their comfort to their pocketbooks to their household there will be a combination of both economic necessary and austerity measures and needs seen across the european union and understandably so you know most citizens are so ok with that so i do think we will there be war protests across france. but next couple of with our list is coming up after this short break on international from moscow.

it sounds like a dragon crashing through the forest but it is in fact technology versus trees and would you believe it this machine can file and strip hundreds of them each day when building this facility we wanted to use advanced technology that would increase of the sea and allow us not to use manual labor also this provides for better quality goods as a result we were able to conquer western markets the demand for corrina birchwood is high since our production line is quite efficient where i will to work for higher wages to our employer the trunks end up here where they turned into planks which branch off for all manner of uses greenies wood exports and large but not all of it goes with gold. here in the museum island of traditional methods they used to build and maintain churches and dwellings dating back hundreds of years in this whole what career is used to what. is highest complexity these planks are about to
12:25 pm
become part of something which exemplifies the combination of tradition and technology. here at the valley on both viking boat makers what is fashioned into their souls new and old they range from small private boat to replicas used in the historical t.v. series hornblower. my books are all special they're like children to me we have to design and build them from scratch it's always sad when we have to part ways every time we sail away while we remain at the dark and pavel gets much of his timber from karelia same customers pine for its high quality wood. which brings us to the first six million cubic meters of wood is cut down in careers forest every year it goes to make everything from. form houses to follow which and with careers proximity to europe and the baltic states big forests leave big business.

below both the world wars world even though we have a will to live the only groups of the blue collar to suit the solutions also argues in the right enough to my mother it was like many of them out age that wasn't forced marriages smadi when i was fifteen years so you can liberate other women and you certainly can't do it through the barrel of a gun only effective social changes can be the afghans themselves afghan men and women we believe going to stun them not to cross paths without the participation of its chemical position and that of construction but it's the people
12:27 pm
in the obama administration talking about how much they care about the women of afghanistan it's not true they don't care about the women of afghanistan. good afternoon welcome to capital account i'm lauren lyster here in washington d.c. these are headlines for monday november nineteenth two thousand and twelve just thirty percent of the s. and p. five hundred companies beat top line expectations while about sixty five percent beat earnings expectations in the prior quarter according to bloomberg and wall street journal analysis found u.s. companies are scaling back on plans to invest at the fastest pace since the great recession so what bearing does all of this have on a so-called economic recovery and what levers are left to pull well i'm. americans up their use of plastic average credit card debt per bar or in the u.s.
12:28 pm
rose four point six percent to just under five grand in the third quarter while these folks were less diligent about making payments on time that's all according to data from trans union doesn't sound great economist steve keen is here in studio to talk all things debt deflation and it is the business story that really hit home making the local news circuit in a town near you take a look. pies snowball cupcakes all of them will vanish. oh and twinkies to that list of course that's maker hostess brands made no wonder negotiations are going on it turns out twinkies will likely survive not only the zombie apocalypse but also this latest dispute what does that mean for the cottage industry of sellers hawking the snack on line we'll discuss let's get to today's capital account.
12:29 pm
all right as i said half of the nation's forty biggest publicly traded corporate spenders have announced plans to reduce capital expenditures this year or next according to a review by the wall street journal their filings and their conference calls meanwhile we're talking about consumers americans cranked up their use of credit cards in the third quarter which was july to september racking up more debt than a year ago but also being less diligent about making payments on time this is because of an analysis of consumer credit data it's what it showed us from trying to believe now are these data points the exact opposite of what you want if you're talking about an economy recovering and the type of dead accumulation that is positive versus negative here to answer.
